The Curriculum and Assessment Review’s interim report highlights the urgent need for media literacy, critical thinking and subject expertise in a rapidly changing world. It calls for an education system that equips young people to navigate digital information, tackle global challenges and see meaningful representations of themselves in what they learn.
The report reinforces what we’ve long championed: knowledge alone isn’t enough. Young people need the skills to question, debate and communicate effectively – whether it’s tackling AI misinformation, climate change or global conflicts.
At The Economist Educational Foundation, we bring this to life – by combining expert-led insights on current affairs, real-world discussion and oracy-driven learning to help young people think critically and speak confidently about the most significant issues of our time.
On the report, our CEO Flora Letanka wrote:
“The Economist Educational Foundation wholeheartedly welcomes this report.
Its focus on equipping young people with critical thinking, media literacy and a global perspective aligns perfectly with our mission. We believe every child deserves access to current affairs education, like our Topical Talk programme, to navigate today’s complex world and become informed, engaged citizens.”
